The 1964 Ford Mustang was introduced on April 17, 1964, at the World's Fair in New York City. It was a two-door, four-seater sports car with a long hood and short rear deck. The Mustang was offered in two body styles, a hardtop and a convertible, and three engine options: a 170 cubic inch six-cylinder engine producing 101 horsepower, a 260 cubic inch V8 producing 164 horsepower, and a 289 cubic inch V8 producing 271 horsepower. The Mustang featured a three-speed manual transmission as standard, with an optional four-speed manual or three-speed automatic. The base price for the Mustang was $2,368 for the hardtop and $2,614 for the convertible. The Mustang was an instant hit, and Ford sold over 400,000 units in its first year of production. The Mustang has since become an American icon and is still celebrated for its design and performance.
